Chicago Iterations

The following are a few renderings of iterations we worked on at the beginning of the weekend, which Tim covered with a representation of the quilted formal geometry we're working with, which will be rendered in ETFE panels where transparency is desired and landscaping where occupiability is the priority.

Alex's "exquisite corpse" iteration:

And Scott's "executive realness" iteration:

We're currently proceeding with the latter concept; attempting to better integrate circulation & interior space, determine zones of surface transparency & opacity of the skin, enhance qualities of striation & flow, and sketch out concepts of structure.

Miami Concept Design 20100419

Option 1: Uniform Terminal/Ferry Canopy Option with Double Heat Chimney. Vent slits included for the release of back-pressure winds during tropical storms.

Option 2: Divided Terminal/Ferry Canopy Option with Double Heat Chimney and Green Trellis extending above tower mass.

Plan: Main Terminal and Ferry Dock remains unconditioned space while central lobby is climate controlled 100% of the year. Both Main Terminal and Ferry Dock canopy connect to their individual heat trough along the spine of the canopy, leading into their own separate heat towers. Heat towers are oriented along the commercial tower circulation cores to prevent heat transfer into office space.
